It was just another average day in the working life of Robert Downey Jr.
For a chain of people were clinging on to the actor as he flew high in the sky while attached to wires on the set of Iron Man 3 in Wilmington, North Carolina this week.
Motion sensors were attached to various parts of his body, while he also wore a body suit that will be turned into his character's armor through the magic of CGI in post-production.

Downey Jr flew through the air on high wires as they shot Iron Man 3 in Wilmington, North Carolina |
The actor wore a red crash helmet, which bore a resemblance to the one worn by his character Tony Stark in the hit superhero movie series.
And he appeared to be pulling of a particularly daring rescue as they filmed along the Cape Fear River.
While many stunts are pulled off in green screen conditions, the sheer scale of this scene and the cutting edge CGI techniques used by Marvel Pictures mean they can superimpose the superhero over the footage of Robert.
A crack team of stunt coordinators were on hand to operated the wires for the complicated high-flying choreography.

Luckily for the stunt performers there was no danger of them plunging to their doom if they let go |
Robert recently spoke about how excited he was to be working on the latest entry of the series, and said he will return if they keep making good sequels.
He said: 'I know things are looking like that they could go on for a long while.
'As usual in my book, it’s all about quality control and delivering a product that you can have this kind of [positive] reaction to.

There was a meeting among the actors to make sure everyone knew what they were doing |
If they keep doing that, maybe I’ll keep showing up.'
He also said he was as excited as fans about casting rumors linking Oscar-winner Ben Kingsley and Momemnto favourite Guy Pearce to the film.
He said: '(I can’t wait to work with) any or all of them. It’s funny. Sometimes you have to call for a good old-fashioned British invasion.
'Iron Man 3 is really shaping up to be something special.'
